Plato Model 170 Wire Shear / Cutter

Plato is well known for producing quality hand tools for electronic assembly. We use them extensively in our own lab and are pleased to be able to fnally provide these tools to you.

The Model 170 is a general purpose flush cutter for trimming through hole leads and wires. It is capable of cutting copper wire as large as 18AWG (0.040"/1.0mm). Its ergonomic design reduces operator fatigue and reduces operator effort up to 50%.

Assemblers love the effortless shearing action, comfort, and safety of Plato shears. Plato shears use the shear cutting method which requires 50% less operator effort and extends cutting life.

Plato shears have a thin profile designed for those hard to reach areas in electronic assembly. Handles are cushioned for day long comfort, and automatically spring back to their original position after each use.

OK, so much for the features. Just a couple of notes on the use and care of these cutters.

1. Cut leads can fly with high velocity when cut. The Model 170 cutters do not have any safety features. You should always take eye safety precautions when using these cutters. If you want a cutter with a safety guard to prevent lead fly-off look at our Model 175 cutters. Point the leads being cut in a safe direction, NOT towards anybody else. If you do not normally wear glasses, wearing safety grasses is strongly recommended while using these.
2. These are meant for cutting COPPER wire. (This includes plated lead wires of components.) Please do not try to cut copper wire over 18AWG, steel wire or other hard metal wire or bar unless you want a big divot in the middle of the cutting surface and the cutter faces to never close properly again.
