4 Pc Dental Probe Set
Fine pointed dental probes are a basic necessity in SMT assembly, particularly in manually mounting and cleaning up fine pitch components such as QFP, SSOP and TSSOP packages. They can also be very useful in through hole assembly and rework.
Often, cleaning up a lightly bridged set of pins is less damaging by heating the area with a hot air unit and raking a probe gently between the pins while the solder is molten. This is often enough to break the surface tension and clear the bridge without damaging or moving the pads as is so often the case when using solder wick and an iron to clear a bridge.
These are also good for precision final positioning of large packages and in clearing out flux residue left between pins to check for hidden bridges. They can also be used to clear out through-holes of solder when removing parts for repair or replacement when solder wick is not getting the job done and you are close to losing one or both pads. Heat the remaining solder in the hole until molten and run the fine probe tip in the hole to break the tension and clear the hole.
These are just a few examples of where we use these tools everyday in SMT assembly work.
