Anti Static Wrist Band with 6ft cord and integral resistor
I don't know about where you live, but here in West Texas, our average humidity is very low. Dust storms and high winds are the norm a large part of the year. This means static... lots of static. We use a combination of static control methods in our lab including humidifiers, bench static mats, floor static mats, wristbands, ESD safe tools, conductive containers and continuous monitors.
Hopefully you don't have the same static challenges we do, but if you are involved in electronic or computer assembly as a student, hobbyist or professional you should be employing at least some basic anti static measures to protect electronic components from damage. At the very least you need an anti-static work surface and wrist strap or band.
This adjustable anti static wrist strap is a good compromise between economy and reliable protection for the light or occasional user. It comes with a 6' (2m) coiled cord with an integral 1 Megohm resistor to protect the user. The cord end is terminated in a banana jack or alligator clip.
Don't ever use a wrist strap without a current limiting resistor in series with the cord. You should also periodically check the wrist strap to cord end to make sure you still have continuity and the 1 Megohm resistor is still in circuit.
