25X Pocket Microscope with Scale and Light
One of our new toys at Celeritous is a 3 axis CNC router/mill. One of the applications for it is milling the occasional PCB. Having worked with the aplication specific PCB mills in the past one of the hardest and most time consuming setup steps is getting the cutter depth and width just right. This is particularly true with the larger angle (30 degree and above) cutters where the width can change very quickly with minor variations in depth. Some means of measuring the actual cut width of a test cut in-situ is necessary. We looked for a magnifier with an integrated measurement scale for this purpose. What we didn't expect to find was one that also featured a built-in LED light source.
This 25X pocket microscope is ideal for making quick, accurate cut width measurements on your PCB mill as well as other tasks such as inspecting the mill ends for wear, end width or other measurements where a magnifier and scale are needed. The built-in reticle has 0.5mm graduations as well as some angular reference marks. The LED light source is just icing on the cake, providing excellent illumination for making measurements on items in-place without having to use another hand to hold a flashlight or other light source.
25X power is perhaps a bit high for this application where a bit more field of view would e nice, but we haven't found a comparable 10-15X microscope without having to buy a container load of them.
